Which Costa Rica Stay Is Right for You?
One of the questions I get asked all the time is: “Katie, which property should we stay at?”
And my answer is usually another question: What do you picture when you think about your Costa Rica vacation?
Because I have three properties here, but they’re definitely not three versions of the same stay. One puts you right on the beach, one gives you your own little tropical world, and one puts you right in the middle of Jaco.
So instead of comparing bedrooms and amenities, let’s do this the fun way.
1. You wake up in Costa Rica. What are you doing first?
A. Coffee on the balcony, watching the rainforest wake up and seeing what wildlife shows up.
B. Swimsuit on. I’m deciding between the beachfront pool and the actual beach.
C. Grabbing breakfast in Jaco and figuring out what adventure we’re getting into today.
2. What's your perfect Costa Rica afternoon?
A. We went ziplining this morning. Now I’m back at the villa, floating in the infinity pool with an ocean view.
B. Surf lesson, beach, pool, repeat. Maybe I’ll wander into town later.
C. We left for an excursion this morning and somehow ended up surfing, grabbing lunch and exploring Jaco afterward.
3. You have one completely unplanned day. What happens?
A. Honestly? We might not leave. Pool, rooftop, drinks, wildlife spotting... I paid for this villa and I’m enjoying it.
B. No plan needed. We have the beach, multiple pools and whatever we feel like doing within reach.
C. We’ll head out, explore a little and let the day unfold from there.
4. It’s almost sunset. Where are you?
A. Somewhere beautiful with a drink in hand, taking it all in.
B. On the beach. I will rearrange the entire day around a good sunset.
C. Wherever the day took us — and probably already talking about what we’re doing tonight.
5. What does “relaxing” on vacation mean to you?
A. A slow day, a beautiful view and absolutely no reason to rush.
B. A swimsuit, sunshine and alternating between the water and my lounge chair.
C. A full day of exploring followed by a dip in the pool and a good dinner.
6. What makes a vacation memorable for you?
A. The places that make you stop and think, “wow, I can’t believe we’re actually here”.
B. Those simple vacation moments — swimming, sunshine, long beach days and sunsets.
C. The things you actually got to experience, the adventures, food, people and places you discovered.
7. Which sentence sounds most like you?
A. “Where we stay matters just as much as what we do.”
B. “If there’s a beach, that’s where you’ll find me.”
C. “I want to actually get out and experience the place I travelled to.”
Okay... now let’s see where you’re staying!
Mostly A’s? Hermosa Sunset Villa
You’re the “the stay IS part of the vacation” traveller. You want to explore Costa Rica, but you also want somewhere you’re excited to come home to. Beautiful views, nature all around you, slow mornings and a little luxury are your idea of a vacation.
I’d send you to Hermosa Sunset Villa. With its hillside rainforest setting, ocean views, infinity pool and plenty of space to settle in, this is the kind of stay you’ll actually want to make time to enjoy.
Mostly B’s? Bahia Sunset
You’re the “I came to Costa Rica for the beach life” traveller.
Your perfect days revolve around sunshine, swimming, surfing and sunsets, with plenty of time to just relax by the water.
Bahia Sunset is your match. You’re right on the beach with multiple beachfront pools, while still being close enough to head into town whenever you feel like exploring.
Mostly C’s? Casa del Sol
You’re the “I want to really experience Costa Rica” traveller.
You want beach days and pool time, but you also want to explore, try the food, book the excursions, learn to surf and get a taste of everyday Pura Vida.
I’d put you at Casa del Sol. Right in the heart of Jaco, it gives you the perfect home base for getting out and experiencing it all—with your own private pool to come back to.
